Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations Doug Self has resigned from SWOSU.

Brian Adler, SWOSU vice president for public relations & marketing, confirmed to The Southwestern that Self took a job at the University of Kansas.

Self was the primary media contact for the athletics department since he came to SWOSU in 2013. In 2019, he became Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations.

Self was selected as the Grant Burger Media Award winner for the NCAA Division II SID category by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in the summer of 2017. In addition, Self has garnered six awards from the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association (OCPRA) in the categories of Sports Writing and Best Headline.

A former assistant SID at Fort Hays State University, Self worked as the Media and Public Relations Coordinator for the Valero Alamo Bowl during the 2012 bowl season and he has returned to the event in a volunteer capacity each season since. His responsibilities at SWOSU include keeping statistics for each team along with updating the SWOSU Athletics website (swosuathletics.com) and helping to promote Bulldog teams, coaching and athletes to the local media.

In June 2013, Self helped launch the department’s new website – swosuathletics.com – after a six month process. SWOSU has since launched a redesigned website in March of 2018, providing a new, fresh look for Bulldog fans. An increased emphasis has been placed on social media under the direction of Self, resulting in tremendous growth on all outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

During his time at SWOSU, Self has served as a member of the NCAA Division II Regional Advisory Committee for Women’s Soccer (2015-17) and has worked with the National Committee for the D2SIDA Men’s Basketball rankings since 2014, serving as the Central Region chair in 2014-15 and the National Coordinator in 2015-16. He has served as the lead statistician at the Great American Conference basketball tournaments, held in Bartlesville, Okla., since 2013 and provided stats at the K101 Classic Bowl, a high school all-star game in Woodward, Okla., since 2015.
