Bleed blue: The podcast of SWOSU Athletics

By Jesse Miller

For The Southwestern

Bleed Blue is the official sports podcast for Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s athletic program as of Aug. 24. The podcast features former NCAA Woman of the Year Award and Great American Conference All-American women's basketball player, Hailey Tucker.

Doug Self, SWOSU's assistant athletic director for media, reached out to Tucker asking her if she would be interested in hosting a weekly show. Tucker is a news reporter for KWCH channel 12 in Wichita, Kansas, so Self said, “I thought she would be up for it.”

Tucker accepted right away, as COVID-19 has taken away a lot of the sports aspects for the fall sports season.

The premiere episode of Bleed Blue features an interview with SWOSU Athletic Director Todd Helton, with topics concerning everything from COVID-19 and its effects on the SWOSU Athletic Department, to his days as a player and coach for the Bulldog Football team.

The second episode of Bleed Blue, featured SWOSU President Randy Beutler, who talks about the recent announcement of his upcoming retirement, along with sharing some of his favorite memories at SWOSU and his future plans.

The latest episode featured an interview between the two most-decorated SWOSU Lady Bulldogs, as Tucker chatted with the three-time national champion and SWOSU living legend, Kelli Litsch.

Tucker said she loves being able to be a part of the new SWOSU Athletics podcast. She said her favorite part of doing the Bleed Blue podcast is that she gets to interact with SWOSU again, while also reminiscing on being a part of the everyday Bulldog life.

“Getting a little snippet of the Dawgs every week is such a highlight,” Tucker said, while adding that she misses everyone so much and that her time here went by way too fast.
