The Bulldogs got off to a great start and jumped out to an early 7-point lead, but NWOSU would tie it up about halfway through the half at 22 apiece. SWOSU would quickly regain that 7-point lead as Tauriawn Knight continued his great shooting, nailing a 3. A technical was issued against NWOSU with about 8 and a half to go and that would spark a 5-point outburst and give the Dawgs an 11-point lead with 7:19 left in the half.
That would explode to a 17-point lead with just over 2-minutes to go as the Bulldog defense was stout and the offense was flowing. They would ride that tough defense all the way to halftime and take a 22-point lead at the half, 52-30, over the Rangers. The Bulldogs lit the scoreboard up, shooting 51.2% from the floor and 46.2% from 3-point land. They held the Rangers to 34.4% from the floor and held them to just 20% from beyond the arc.
The 2nd half started with SWOSU jumping into a full-court press, propelling the Dawgs to a 19-point lead, but NWOSU would cut that to 25-points with 15:55 left in the game. The game would really go back and forth between the 2 teams as SWOSU would hold a 23-point lead at 70-47 with 11:55 remaining. As the game went on, a lot of talking went back and forth between the two teams, resulting in 3 technical fouls. With 6:36 remaining, SWOSU was up 86-53.
The Bulldogs would ride that lead out to a 99-66 win over the rivals of Northwestern. Damion Thornton led the way with 20-points, along with 8-rebounds and 4-assists.
The Dawgs head to Shawnee, Okla. on Thursday to play Oklahoma Baptist. The Bison handed the team their first loss of the season earlier this year. That game is set to take place at 7:30 p.m.
