Crowder Lake will be celebrating Opening Day on March 27. Opening Day will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 5 p.m.

The day will include free activities, such as watercraft rentals and a slack-line competition that will begin at 10 a.m. Also, at that time, the Volkswagen Club of Oklahoma will be having a meet-up and car display. The zip-line, rock-wall, and repel tower will be open throughout the day. At 11 a.m., there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Dr. Ken Rose Memorial Playground. At 4 p.m., watercraft rentals will end and there will be a trophy presentation.

Food trucks will be available all day. There will be a variety of food trucks to choose from for meals, snacks, or drinks.

Opening Day includes a Dutch Oven Cook-off and a Downhill Derby competition. The Dutch Oven Cook-off consists of two categories: dessert and entree. Each team can have up to six members. All members of teams must agree to a temperature check, wear masks and gloves, and wash hands before handling food. No member can be a professional cook. One team member must stay in the cooking area at all times, and all members must practice safe cooking and handling procedures. Teams are expected to provide their own food products, cooking utensils, and Dutch ovens. All food should be cooked onsite and teams are only allowed one entry per category. Teams can also provide their own shade if desired as shaded areas are limited. The cooks meeting will take place at 10 a.m., and judging will begin at 3 p.m. Food may be served to the public at 3:30 p.m. if the teams want to serve their food.

The Downhill Derby will consist of a junior division for ages 7-18 years old and a senior division for ages 18 and up. Each team competing in the derby can have up to three members. A starting push will be allowed, but the person pushing must be the same age as the driver. The driver must wear a helmet, adequate footwear, and protective clothing. The car must be able to steer and stop, and it must be able to pass an inspection. The car can not have a motor or pedals. The inspection time for cars will be at 1 p.m., and racing will begin at 2 p.m. It will be a double elimination tournament.

For anyone wanting to compete in the Downhill Derby or the Dutch Oven Cook-off, they can pre-register by emailing crowder@swosu.edu.
