The SWOSU women’s basketball team looked to push their win streak to 4 games this evening against Southeastern Oklahoma State: a team they had beaten twice this year already. In the end, the Lady Bullogs beat Savage Storm 74-67.
The game began with Southeastern having their way, taking an early 5-point lead and holding the lead, 18-17 at the end of 1.
Quick ball movement and efficient offense would put the Lady Dawgs on an 8-0 run and give them a 25-18 lead with 7:20 remaining in the half. The Savage Storm would pull eventually tie it up, but the Dawgs would take the lead into halftime 32-30 over SEOSU. Bethany Franks would light up the scoreboard with 14-points to lead all scorers.
At the start of the 2nd half, both teams came out slow and neither team was able to grab a lead. At the 3rd quarter media timeout, it was tied 39-39. An unreal play by Taber Beer - by unreal I mean she threw the ball off the back of an unsuspecting Southeastern player and scooped the layup off the glass - gave the Lady Bulldogs a 4-point lead with 2:45 remaining in the quarter. A steal at the buzzer secured a 3-point lead heading into the 4th.
Another slow start began the final frame and with 6 minutes remaining, SEOSU took a 1-point lead, but back-to-back buckets from Karly Gore and SWOSU was back up 4 at 59-55. Head Coach Kelsi Musick’s patented “Chaos” defense would ensue as the Lady Dawgs ran away from SEOSU to secure their 10th overall win and 3rd straight over Southeastern.
The next game is scheduled for Saturday in Ada, Okla. against East Central at 2:00 pm.
