The SOSU Lady Dawgs jumped out early 17-12 about halfway through the first and held that lead to end the quarter up 7, 26-19 and just seemed to be firing on all cylinders early. Fast start to the 2nd frame as the Dawgs held the Lady Bison scoreless for the first 3 minutes and jumped out to a 15-point lead with 6 minutes to go in the half. Taber Beer hit several 3’s and played great defense to keep the lead and with 3:32 to go, they led by 13.
SWOSU’s hot streak came to an end as sloppy basketball ensued for about 4 minutes as both teams couldn’t handle the basketball and neither team could score. In the last minute, however, OBU was able to chip away at the SWOSU lead and go into halftime down just 3 at 33-38. It wasn’t a good 2nd quarter for the Dawgs as they were outscored 14-12. 3-point shooting was only at about 20% for both teams and OBU out rebounded the Dawgs by 7 in the first half.
The 2nd half started much better as the Bulldogs extended their lead to 10-points wit 5:09 to go. The ball movement and defense was much better by the Lady Dawgs so begin the 3rd quarter as they turned to pressure on in the half court. The Lady Bison wouldn’t go away as they kept it close, climbing back to within 10. The Lady Dawgs offense shined through the end of the frame and would take a 16-point lead into the 4th quarter as Taber Beer hit a pullup 3 at the buzzer.
The defensive tempo really picked up for the Lady Dawgs as they jumped out to a 20 point lead halfway through the quarter and could ride that out to an easy win. In the last 3 minutes, the Bulldogs lit the scoreboard up and ended the game with a 33-point lead, 91-58. It didn’t start out that way, and the score might even be a little misleading as the game really felt close for 3 quarters.
Makyra Tramble dropped 13 in the 2nd half and ended with 17 points and grabbed 11 boards. SWOSU ended with 6 players in double figures which is the most all season.
Their next game will take place in Durant, Okla. at 5:30 pm next Thursday, Jan. 21.
