SWOSU Dean of Students Joshua Engle said the state-of-the-art arena is impressive and the SWOSU eSports team looks forward to hosting events this fall.
During this past year, SWOSU competed in several intercollegiate tournaments and brought home impressive wins. Super Smash Bros. competitors brought home first and third place finishes during Oklahoma Association of Collegiate eSports intercollegiate tournaments, while Rocket League competitors brought home second place.

SWOSU also developed and implemented its first video game design option as part of its computer science program.
“Students can now learn imperative and foundational skills in game development and eSports event coordination,” Engle said. “It was exciting to see students engage in the classroom as we had over 20 complete the first course of the program.”
Engle said this last year also saw students embrace casual play as they attended informal tournaments every Thursday evening. He said this fostered a growing gaming community while supporting our student-competitors to sharpen their competition skills.
Another open house event is also planned for SWOSU students when they return for the 2021 fall semester.
