No Spring Break 2021 at SWOSU - Right decision? Vote now!
Updated: Nov 21, 2020
As part of Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s strategy to promote the health and safety of its community, SWOSU has made changes to its spring 2021 calendar for the Weatherford and Sayre campuses.
For the spring 2021 semester, SWOSU will start on the regularly scheduled date of January 11 but will not offer a traditional spring break. By doing so, students will end the spring semester one week earlier in April rather than the normal time in May. The last day of the spring semester will now be April 30.
“Students, faculty and staff have been resilient this fall in doing their part to keep SWOSU safe,” SWOSU President Randy Beutler said. “The university takes safety protocols very seriously and is making every effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and maintain face-to-face classes on campus. Knowing what we do about COVID-19, we believe that cancelling spring break will help us avoid a possible surge in cases due to travel.”
Beutler said the decision was not made easily. Faculty, staff, students and administration were involved in numerous meetings this fall about the spring schedule.
“No current plan provides 100% protection, but this elimination of spring break will help to lessen the possibility of COVID-19 conveyance from one person to another,” Beutler said.
“We want to keep our students, faculty and staff safe and be able to conduct classes for the entire spring semester.”

Beutler applauds the efforts of everyone in keeping SWOSU safe and look forward to a great spring semester.
