SWOSU’s Student Government Association (SGA) comprises students elected into office by sitting senators and their peers through Canvas. They are responsible for hosting many events—including Homecoming, SWOSUPalooza, and the “Battle of the Bulldogs”—and investing in improvements to the SWOSU campus, including the Student Union lawn hammock and the Stafford Building pergola.
“You don’t have to be a senator to help out with this kind of stuff and make your voice heard,” says SGA President Natalie Kinder. “SGA elected officials have scheduled office hours, so you can stop by our offices [on the north side of the Student Union], and we’d love to talk!”
Ranking SGA members gather in Senate Meetings to discuss the progress on these projects. These sessions aren’t done behind closed doors, however.
“Anyone is welcome to attend Student Senate [meetings],” Kinder said, “regardless of whether you’re a senator or a treasurer or what have you. We start at 6 p.m. every Tuesday in Stafford 104.”
The SGA won’t be starting Senate races until August. Still, the organization page outlines the process of joining: “Look for sign-ups around campus or contact an officer or cabinet member to express your interest. Once you have registered, campaigning begins within your academic college.”
