Rebecca Lau is a sophomore golfer from Puchong Selangor, Malaysia. She is a marketing major.
After speaking with Lau in regards to her life at SWOSU and the changes that came with moving to the United States, Lau had this to say:
“My expectation was to be able to play normally even with the different weather there is here. For studies, expectations were to make straight A’s. In reality, golf-wise, it was hard because it was cold and extra windy, so it was hard to adapt. For studies, it was pretty easy because I was pretty interested in most of my classes.”
Lau said it was easier to adjust with multiple international players in the similar situation of playing in the States for the first time.
“Everyone is nice here," Lau said on the difference between Malaysia and Oklahoma. “Not that Malaysians are mean, but everyone here greets you. Most of the time, everyone has a smile on their face when they’re talking to you and they are willing to start a conversation with you even though you're a stranger. Back home, that wasn’t a thing we did. That was the biggest culture shock for me."
After graduation, Lau wants to team up with some golf products or become a professional golfer.
