SWOSU’s basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, cross-country, golf, and volleyball teams only have a few games left in their respective seasons before the Great American Conference finalizes its 12 districts’ standings.

On Saturday, Feb. 27, SWOSU’s baseball team will be facing off against Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas. The games begin at 1 p.m., with the women playing first and the men playing later at 4 p.m.

The women’s basketball team will be playing at 2 p.m. against Oklahoma Baptist University at Shawnee. The women’s team is currently No. 1 in the GAC’s western division, with 14 wins and two losses for this season.

“Following a victory that clinched first place in the Great American Conference’s Western Division, the SWOSU Lady Bulldogs are again on the move in the national rankings,” wrote Doug Self, SWOSU’s Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations. “(They climbed) one spot to No. 19 in the latest poll released by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association on Tuesday.”

On Sunday, Feb. 28, SWOSU’s women’s soccer team will face off against Northwestern Oklahoma State University here in Weatherford at 2 p.m. SWOSU and NWOSU have played two soccer games this season. They are currently sitting at 2-0, respectively.

The final sports event for this season will take place on Thursday, March. 4. In this volleyball game, SWOSU will play South Nazarene here in Weatherford. The game will start at 7 p.m.

SWOSU and South Nazarene’s Volleyball teams have played three games this season and are currently sitting at 3-0, respectively.

Starting on Saturday, Feb. 27, the GAC will begin hosting its championship page.

“[We’ll] host a total of 10 championship events per academic year for 14 of its 15 sports,” explains Will Prewitt, the National Collegiate Athletic Association commissioner for the GAC.

“The only sport without a conference (championship) game is football. However, the team with the best conference record … will be crowned the conference champion for football.”

Saturday, Feb. 27 will see the men and women’s cross-country meet, which will be hosted at Weatherford’s “Ol’ Fishin’ Hole.”

The men run at 9:30 a.m., and the women run at 10:30 a.m.

The basketball championship will begin on Monday, March. 1.

The games will be hosted at various locations.

The women’s team won this tournament in the 2018-19 season.
