SWOSU Athletics Recap, Feb. 25-29

There were numerous athletic events that the Bulldogs participated in this weekend. Here is a short recap of what happened:


The SWOSU Cross Country team hosted and competed in the Great American Conference Spring Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning and finished 8th with a total score of 230 points. The Lady Dawgs were led by Josilyn Schenck who finished 23rd with a 5k time of 19:55.


Oklahoma Baptist won the women’s championship and East Central took the men’s championship.


The SWOSU Baseball team hosted the #10 team in the country in Southern Arkansas. They lost the first two games in the 3-game series and took the final in a great game from pitcher Nate Postlethwait. He had 6-innings pitched, only allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, and only walked 1 batter. He got the win and Ryan Hildner got the save. Hildner allowed 0 hits and only walked 1 batter. The Bulldog Baseball team plays the University of Central Oklahoma today at 2 p.m. in Weatherford, Okla.


The Lady Bulldog Soccer team was also in action Thursday and Sunday. They shutout both East Central and Northwestern. Against East Central, Claire Torry scored in the 53rd minute as the Dawgs would shut the Tigers out and go on to win 1-0. Against the Rangers of Northwestern, SWOSU would score 2-goals in another shutout win. Brianna Benitez scored in the 45th minute and Micaela Swain scored in the 58th minute to seal the win. Their next game is slated for next Sunday against Ouachita Baptist at 1 p.m. in Weatherford, Okla.


The SWOSU Women’s Basketball team secured 1st place in the Western Division with two wins on Thursday and Saturday. For senior night, the Lady Dawgs beat Southern Nazarene with Lauren Ramey leading the way. She finished the game with 15-points and 6-rebounds. Saturday, they faced the Lady Bison of Oklahoma Baptist and won 85-71. Makyra Tramble had 17-points and 10-rebounds to lead the Lady Bulldogs. They solidified their spot at the top of the division and earned a first round bye in the GAC Tournament. They will face either Ouachita Baptist or Southern Arkansas Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Weatherford, Okla.


The SWOSU Men’s Basketball team also played Thursday and Saturday. Their weekend didn’t turn out that well as they lost to both SNU and OBU. Senior night ended with a loss to SNU, 62-48. No Bulldog scored in double digits, but five players dropped 8-points. Saturday didn’t turn out any better as the Dawgs dropped the season finale to the Bison in OT, 101-98. Tauriawn Knight led the way with 23-points and 4-rebounds. They are heading to Durant, Okla. to face Southeastern in the first round of the GAC Tournament at 7:30 p.m.
