SWOSU celebrates 50 years of jazz festival this week

SWOSU is having the 50th Anniversary Jazz Festival this spring. It will be held on February 6-7.


The Thursday night performance will be a jazz quartet which features one of SWOSU's alumni. The entrance fee is $10. However, in the case that tickets are sold out, there will be a livestream in the Business Enterprise Center that students can watch for free.


On Friday, there will be an all-day festival taking place at four different locations consisting of the Fine Arts Center auditorium, the Music Hall, the Hilltop Theatre, and the Business Enterprise Center.


Gordon Goodwin will be leading a free clinic at 10:15 a.m. Dave Hanson will be offering a master class at 12:15 p.m. At 1 p.m., there will be a performance by SWOSU Jazz A. Tickets for the performance are $3 for students, $5 for seniors, and $10 for adults. There will be another clinic at 2:45 p.m. about orchestrating for animation.


Later Friday night, SWOSU Jazz B will be performing at 7:30 p.m. A little before 8 p.m., the SWOSU Alumni Band. Starting at 8 p.m., Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band will be performing. Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance will be $10 for students, $15 for seniors, and $25 for adults.


The performance of Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat band will be the highest profile artist to perform at the SWOSU Jazz Festival. There will also be over 30 bands in attendance.
