SWOSU Men move to 3-0, Beat SNU 76-69

The SWOSU offense struggled early as the SNU defense was impenetrable. But, a couple 3’s by Braylan James and Jaylan Williams cut the lead from 10 to 4 with about 12:30 left in the half. The SWOSU defense also began to settle in as SNU only scored 3 points for about 5 minutes. At the under 8 media timeout, the Crimson storm led 20-13 over the Dawgs.
Shots didn’t fall early for the Bulldogs as they shot 22.2% from the floor, but 3-pointers and free throws helped keep the Dawgs within striking distance. With a much improved offensive game, SWOSU was able grab the lead late in the 1st half. 3-point percentage stayed at 50% throughout the half and the Dawgs led 34-32 at the break.
SWOSU came out hot as they scored a quick 4 points and had a couple quick steals which pushed the lead to 6 early in the half. They went on an 11-0 run for the first 3:30 in the half till Adokiye Iyaye hit a 3 to stop the bleeding. With 15:53 to go, SWOSU held a 12-point lead.
The Dawgs would hold that lead and play solid defensively to keep the Crimson Storm at bay. With just over 11 minutes to go, the Bulldogs led 52-40. The team also kept control of the ball and up to that point only had 5 turnovers.
SNU, however, wouldn’t go away. At the under 8 media timeout, SWOSU led 56-51.
With just over 2 minutes, it was a 2 point game when Chris Braggs took a huge charge and gave the Dawgs the ball back. On the very next possession, Braylan James hit a huge 3 to put the lead back to 5. Chris Braggs would have 2 huge plays to extend the lead to 8 with 22 seconds to go. The Bulldogs would hold out to win 76-69 to extend their record to 3-0.
Their next game will be on Jan. 16 against Oklahoma Baptist in Weatherford, Okla. at 4:00 p.m. following the women’s game.
