The men’s game started with a quick pace with both teams racing up and down the floor. Jaylan Williams came out firing from beyond the arc going 2/3.
Halfway through the 1st half it was a tie ball game 25-25.
Knight had it going from everywhere early in the half, continuing his scoring success from Thursday night. At about the 4 minute mark the pace began to slow down as both teams began to run more half court offense.
The last media timeout had the score 40-39 with SWOSU leading by 1. At that point, SWOSU went small with Thornton and Chris Braggs playing the 4 and 5 spots.
Bragg’s defense and hustle was on full display this half with a couple blocks and steals and several plays where he ended up on the floor. The defense really stepped up as in the last 2 minutes they only allowed 7 points to hold the lead at 6, 48-42 at the end of the half.
For SEOSU, Johnson led the way with 11 points and 5 rebounds. For SWOSU, Jaylan Williams had 11 points and hit 3 3’s.
Braggs continued his tough play early in the 2nd half as he added a steal and a block, which led to a tie up, and then an unbelievable move to the rack and got the bucket. He put the Dawgs up 54-42 at the 18:47 mark.
It took a minute for the Savage Storm offense to wake up, but a 14-2 run at about the 18 minute mark till the 14 minute mark allowed them to tie it up. After that, at the 12 media timeout, it went back and forth to be tied up at 63 with 11:19 to go.
The game seemed to go back and forth after that as no team could seem to get a stop on defense, but both offenses were working efficiently.
The Dawgs picked it up on the defensive end of the floor, stalling the hot Savage Storm offense and pushing out to a 9 point lead with 3:06 to go in the game.
Tauriawn Knight had 21 points then, which led the Dawgs scoring wise.
With just under 2 minutes to go, the Bulldogs took off nearly a minute of clock as they ran it all the way down to 2 on the shot clock, then shot a wild 3. This allowed Braggs to get position under the basket and grab an offensive rebound.
This led to Thornton getting it inside and putting it in for 2.
Southeastern began to press the last minute or so, but the Dawgs rode an 8-10 point lead the rest of the way.
Knight finished the game with 25 points to lead the way for the Dawgs and Thornton did his part adding 18.
For the Savage Storm, Johnson had 26 to lead all scorers and Adam Dworsky added 17.
Your Bulldogs won it by 8, 93-85.
