SWOSU Presidential Search

The search for who will become the new president of SWOSU has been narrowed down to 15 candidates, and students can expect to find out who it is sometime in March.
SWOSU President Randy Beutler announced his retirement last year, and the Regional University System of Oklahoma is in charge of deciding who the next president of the university will be. The board put together a search firm to narrow down candidates, and the board will vote from those individuals.
According to SWOSU Vice President and Provost James South, the names of the finalists will not be made public, but students can expect to find out who the next president will be soon.
“I anticipate there will be an announcement in early March,” South said.
On Feb. 24, the RUSO Board will interview the finalists, and South anticipates that a decision will be made on Feb. 26.
South also announced his own retirement last year, so there will be a search for a new vice president and provost once the president is decided.
The search for the new provost is different in that the names of the finalists will be announced, and there will be chances for students and faculty to get to know them.
“For the provost, it is an internal search and will have public events,” South said.
South said the search for who will become the new provost will begin after the president is decided upon, since the president will have to approve the provost, and that students can expect to hear who it will be in late April, near the end of the semester.
According to South, the university is not looking for a major change in direction with the new president and provost.
“Given the direction we have been going with graduation and retention rates, I don’t think they’re looking for a big change.”
Both Beutler and South will officially retire June 30, 2021.
