SWOSU President Randy Beutler on Tuesday announced a historic donation of $5 million by Jerry and Margaret Hodge.

"We are very grateful for this generosity and this vision," Beutler said. According to him, the donation is the single largest donation in the history of Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

The donation is intended to support construction and development of the future Jerry and Margaret Hodge Pharmacy and Rural Health Center. The $5 million donation will complement the $7 million provided by the recently passed sales tax by the citizens of Weatherford.

"The goal is to establish SWOSU as the center of rural health education in this area," Beutler said on the press conference. "The impact of this gift will be significant not only to this university, but the thousands of future graduates that will benefit with the degrees in the Health Sciences. Those graduates in turn will continue that positive impact by practising that healing craft in the rural communities in Oklahoma and bring adequate professional healthcare where it is desperately needed."

Jerry Hodge is a 1965 graduate of SWOSU's College of Pharmacy and a long-time supporter of the university. He was inducted into the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in 1979.

This is a developing story.
