SWOSU volleyball earns academic recognition from AVCA
For the fifth time in program history and first time since 2016, the SWOSU Volleyball team earned the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic award for the 2019 season.
SWOSU is one of a record 1,313 teams to earn the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, which recognizes teams from all levels of collegiate and high school volleyball. The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
“Coaches have the most influence during difficult times,” said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. “Keeping student-athletes focused on their academic success when their volleyball identity was suddenly gone is leadership worth celebrating!”
Bulldog Volleyball has now received the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award in four-of-eight seasons under the direction of Head Coach Josh Collins, with previous recognition for the 2012, 2014 and 2016 seasons.
Collins: “I am very proud of our student-athletes for their dedication to the classroom. This is a clear indication that they have not only bought in to the standards of our team culture, but they also believe in the ideals of our great university. These young women continue to make me proud on and off of the court and I am so glad that they are DAWGS.”
