The first quarter exhibited fast and sloppy play from both teams. The Lady Dawgs jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, but the lead was short lived as the Lady Savage Storm took over at the end of 1, 16-13.
Southwestern came out firing, but couldn’t hit shots early. It wasn’t until the second quarter that the Lady Bulldogs finally found their groove.
Thanks to strong inside play from Bethany Franks and Karly Gore and steady shooting from Makyra Tramble, they were able to jump back on top with a 24-20 lead halfway through the second quarter.
The rest of the 2nd quarter was much slower paced and under control as the two teams found a way to get inside and draw fouls. It went back and forth all the way down to the halftime buzzer.
To start the 2nd half, the Lady Bulldogs came out firing, getting 3’s from Ramey and Tramble, jumping out to an 11 point lead with 4:14 to go. The Dawgs dropped 28 to finish the game with a 13 point lead, 65-52.
The Lady Dawgs offense continued to explode in the fourth and their defense was the best it had been all afternoon, holding the Lady Savage Storm to 12 total points in the 4th quarter. They dropped 36 points to end the game and went on to win 101-64.
Tramble once again led the way scoring with 28 points.
The next game will be against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Monday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
