Voter registration tabling on Oct. 8

Voter registration has been made easy thanks to the Dean of Students.

All SWOSU students are encouraged to come to the Stafford Lobby from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 8 for a voter registration tabling. There, students will have the chance to register to vote or update their voter registration information.

“The Dean of Students hopes to have plenty of students that choose to register to vote, especially because we are offering students the convenience of registering before or after their classes,” said Coordinator of Student Activities, Lesley Alvarado.

This event reduces a commute for students and promotes accessibility with registration directly on campus. With the November election swiftly approaching, the Dean of Students wants to generate opportunities for students to register.

Students will need to bring their driver’s license or know their Social Security number to fill out the paperwork.

The tabling is a useful resource for those who wish to familiarize with voter registration or renew any personal voter information. It is also an opening for students to enable their right to vote.

“SWOSU wants students to know that their voices and votes matter,” the coordinator said.

Voter registration tabling will be a recurring event to ensure all students have the knowledge and information to exercise their right to vote.

“We like to encourage new incoming students at SWOSU to register to vote, especially since a lot of new freshmen recently turn 18 by the start of the semester.”

An Absentee Voting Party at 5 p.m. Oct. 20 in Stafford 110 will inform out-of-state students on the process of absentee voting. This event makes it possible for all students to participate.

“The Dean of Students encourages voting on all levels: national, state and local. We want SWOSU students to be active and engaged in their communities and our country,” Alvarado said.
